Addy's second doctors appointment for the day wasn't as fun. She had her 2 month appointment and is doing well. She weighs 12 pounds now, which to me means she can start sleeping through the night. Our next goal.
It was sad to watch her get her first set of shots, although her sad face is really cute. She cried but it was nothing compared to her wailing when they put her in the harness.
She did pretty well. I think she was milking it for a bit, thinking she could get some more sympathy if she was fussy. Then when she thought we weren't looking, she was smiling at her mobile.

she IS perfect after all!
We got great news yesterday!
Three weeks ago we went in for an ultrasound on her hips because the doctors had heard a click in her left hip. The pediatrician said that it was just precautionary and that her hips, although the sockets were shallow, seemed to be pretty good and were getting better. We were surprised to hear at the first appointment with an orthopedists that she needed to be in a Pavlik Harness for 23 hours a day for 5 weeks. It was torture to watch them strap her in. I don't know who cried harder, Addy or me. Needless to say, it didn't last long and we decided to see 2 other doctors to get a second... and third opinion. They were both much more helpful than the evil PA we saw first. After talking with the second doctor, we decided to roll the dice and see if they got better on their own and it paid off. Her ultrasound came back as normal and we are all happy to hear it. She hates getting dressed, much less being strapped down every day.
You can see what the harness looks like on baby Chloe's blog. She went through the same thing although never had to put the harness on.
I wish I had taken a picture of her in the 30 minutes she had the harness on, but I am not going to put it back on her to capture it. And, to the evil PA who said she would be permanently deformed if I chose not to treat her... "HA! I told you she was perfect!"

Journey through New Mexico
Addy, Mimi and I went on our first road trip as a threesome. It may well have been our last. Apparently planes are a lot more fun.
Mimi came out to babysit while Eric and I played some flip cup on Saturday. For those of you who don't know flip cup, you are missing out. It is a great way to revisit high school/college days! It was nice to be able to be gone for the whole day and night and know that Addy was in good hands. I think Mimi had fun during her girls day with Addy.
Sunday Addy, Mimi and I began our travels through New Mexico heading to Taos. Addy got to meet all sorts of fun people! In fact, it was her first time to meet her uncle Steve. Not only did he not throw her when she threw up on him, but they had lots of fun together. I have a feeling he will spoil her lots in the next few years. She also got to meet my aunt Judi, uncle Larry, cousins Cori, Debbie, Mary, Eddie Jo and their kids A.J. and Jackie. It was a big day of travel but she did great. I have to apologize to whoever has to take out the trash outside the little coffee shop in San Luis, New Mexico. Addy left her mark all over Mimi and we left Addy's outfit in the trashcan there. Sometimes you have to cut your losses.
Then we headed to Albuquerque and hung out with my cousins Cori, Jamie, Kristy and their adorable kids GiGi and Jett. Too bad the camera died, imagine some of the cutest kids with lots of personality and you have these two.
On our way back to Denver, Addy had her first opportunity to ride a train, hitch hike and spend hours stranded at a Diamond Shamrock. The Trooper, which has served us well for many years, lost the transmission in Raton, NM. We knew we weren't going to have a lot of luck finding a rental car in a town of 7,000 people so we hopped on a train that we thought was going to take us to Denver. After finding out that by "Amtrak", they meant "Greyhound" we found ourselves on a scenic tour of Raton Pass going 17 miles an hour only to end up in Trinidad, CO as opposed to Denver. What a disappointment. After hitch hiking (not very smart in retrospect) to the bus stop, we spend 2 hours waiting for the Greyhound only to find out that it wasn't coming until 1am instead of 6pm. Although it sounded like a lot of fun to hang out at the Diamond Shamrock in the middle of the night with a 7 week old baby, Eric drove the 4 hours down to pick us up. We were all very happy to see him. "Sarge", the man who loved Colorado because he had scored lots of free pot and found lots of bridges to sleep under in good weather, was a bit disappointed that he couldn't ride back to Denver with us. Sorry Sarge, we could only pick up one hitch hiker and Heather, our new friend from Littleton, was the chosen one. This was the short story, the long one involves the opportunity to get in a pick up truck with a strange old man, running to the closed convenience store where our luggage was stored and a box with my grandmothers silver tea set. Really, it was too traumatic to really explain here. Addy was a trooper. The only time she got really upset is when we were in the restaurant (closed at the time). Apparently she was really sick of being all cooped up so once I laid her on the booth, she was as happy as could be.
Here are pics of the great part of the trip.

Firsts...
This has been a week of firsts. All welcomed. We didn't get pictures to capture them all so we got some pictures of seconds.
Airplane- She actually had her first, second and third trip to the airport. We got to the airport, through security, and to the gate on Wednesday night only to volunteer to be bumped for a nice airline voucher! So back home we went and we finally got to Kansas City on Thursday. It was sad to miss a night in KC, but we think it may be worth it... Costa Rica- Here we come! She did so well on the airplanes, a world traveler was born.
Meeting Pops- Finally- the last grandparent to meet. She was very happy to meet him. They became fast friends as they talked about the important things in life.
Sleeping through the night- This may be my favorite! I woke up almost in tears on Friday morning as I realized that I had slept for 7 1/2 hours for the first time since May 19th. It was a thing of wonder that lasted for 2 nights and hasn't been repeated since. We are trying for a repeat, we will see if it is possible in Denver. If not, I think this is what would convince me to move back to Kansas City.
Trip to the PV pool- For those in Kansas City who spend days at the PV pool, you would be shocked! There are now 3 water slides, a high dive, 4 pools and a mushroom. After taking a fall down the stairs with the poor little one, I asked mom to come to the pool with Kendra, Eric and I so that I could keep one eye on her and one eye on the water slides. Although I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it, the weather was great! Hot in the sun, cool in the shade so Addy had a great nap while hanging out with Mimi. It was everything I had hoped for and planned for the summer. I hope there are many more pool days in my near future. One of the best parts- we met up with Stacy, Alex and Hutch at the pool.
Smiles- The first big smile I got out of Adelynd was at the Harvard Gulch pool last week when Hanna, Scott and I went. She is such a serious girl I was happy to see a good smile. The pool will bring it out in you for sure. Then over the week in Kansas City there were smiles galore. She was happy to be home and gave Eric his first smile while sitting on the couch. Although not her first smile, this is the first one caught on camera.
Forth of July- She celebrated the independence of the United States in style. There were quite the festivities at Grandma and Grandpa's house with lots of new friends and neighbors. Grandpa got over his poison ivy and was finally able to hold her. She got to meet the whole crew!
